If you’ve got questions about LED flood light then you’ve come to the right place, because today we’ll answer five common questions about LED flood light.

Question #1: Are LED flood lights ‘worth it’?

You might be wondering if it’s worth investing in LED flood light. Well, there are five main benefits to be had from LED floodlighting:

Benefit 1: They’re cost effective
If you’re upgrading from halogen floodlights to LED floodlights, the initial cost will be more. However, they consume up to 90% less energy than their halogen counterparts, meaning your electricity consumption will be a lot lower, saving you money in the long-run.

Benefit 2: They last longer. A lot longer!
LED flood lights are longer-lasting than halogen floodlights. In fact, they’ll last up 50,000 hours, which is 20-times longer than your average halogen flood, saving you yet more money.

Benefit 3: They have a much cooler running temperature
Halogen flood lights can get hot to touch. LED flood lights come with metal heatsinks that direct heat away to maintain a lower running temperature. This also helps prolong the lifespan of the LED chips inside.

Benefit 4: They have wide beam angles for better coverage and security
Whether you’re lighting-up a car park, a garage or your back garden, LED flood lights are guaranteed to give you a wide beam angle that offers greater and more efficient coverage for better security.

Benefit 5: They are designed to perform, whatever the conditions
Fanguang Lighting LED flood lights come with waterproof and dustproof IP65,IP66 casings, so you can expect the same high-quality performance, whatever the weather or working environment.

Question #2: Is LED flood light as bright as halogen?

As we briefly explained before, LED flood lights consume far fewer Watts than their halogen counterparts – so they use a lot less energy. But does this mean they’re not as bright?

In short: No. You can expect the same level of brightness from an LED flood light as a halogen floodlight. Brightness isn’t measured in Watts. It’s actually measured in lumens. Always look for lumens when replacing a halogen light with an LED alternative.

For example, our 30W Philips slim LED flood light beams 3750 lumens of light –equivalent to a 300W halogen floodlight, while consuming a lot less energy.

In fact, if we think of brightness in terms of ‘lumens per Watt’, then LED flood lights are considerably brighter than their halogen alternatives!

Question #3: Can LED flood light be dimmed?

Some LED floodlights are dimmable, but not all.
If you require a dimmable LED flood light make sure you check the product specification for a dimmable feature. If the technology required to dim an LED flood light has not been built into the product, then you won’t be able to dim it.

Question #4: How do you choose LED flood light?

So, you’re ready to buy, but you’re not quite sure what you need? Well, ensure you cover the following four areas to get everything you need from your new LED flood light.

Brightness: This all depends on where you’re going to use the floodlight and for what purpose. If you’re using it for a little extra safety or security in your driveway, then a 10W or 30W LED floodlight, will probably do the job. For larger areas, such as car parks, you’ll need a 200W or above high power LED flood light that beams out a huge over 26,000 lumens.

Additional automatic capabilities: You then need to decide if you want an LED flood light with additional security and efficiency options, such as a distance sensor, automatic time-mode or daylight sensor.

A distance sensor tells the floodlight to switch on automatically when motion is sensed within a certain distance of the light.

The time mode determines how long the LED flood light remains on after it turns on.

Finally, the daylight sensor programmes the light to either only come-on through the day or at night.

Colour options: LED flood lights are able to cast different shades of white light. At Fanguang Lighting, we offer warm white and cool white colour options. Warm white casts a more welcoming tone, while cool white offers greater exposure and is best for security lighting or task lighting.

Design: If you’re short on space, design is really important. Keep an eye-out for slimline models that can be placed anywhere without compromise. They are just as powerful as their bulkier alternatives, and selected models also come with 360 degree brackets that allow for greater versatility when installing.

Question #5: How do LED flood lights work?

LED flood lights use light emitting diodes (LEDs) to generate light. LEDs in floodlights are semi-conductors that turn electricity into light by passing the electric current between two leads (metal pads called SMDs). When the required level of wattage between the leads is reached, energy is released in the form of photons, which provide the light.

Whereas traditional floodlights use heat to generate light, LEDs don’t, which is why they consume such a low amount of electricity by comparison. They also remain cooler to touch, because heat is not required to generate the light, and heatsinks are used to reduce wasted heat energy, which improves both the efficiency and the lifespan of the floodlight.
